Microsoft Outsources Blogging To WordPress

Microsoft and WordPress Announce Partnership Deal

At a live event during TechCrunch Disrupt earlier today, Microsoft announced it will move 30 million of its Windows Live Spaces users over to WordPress.com.

The news was announced by Dharmesh Mehta, Director of Product Management for Windows Live and Toni Schneider, CEO of Automattic, the company behind WordPress, who appeared on stage together to make the announcement.

Windows Live Spaces (see our review here) is the blogging platform for Windows Live and was launched in 2006.

Microsoft’s Mehta called the deal a partnership, not an outsource.

Users will be able to connect WordPress.com blogs to Mircosoft’s Windows Messenger, which will allow user to send out notifications to their friends when they publish a new post on their WordPress blog.

Existing Windows Live Spaces users will be given six months to transition. Users will be migrated through a process that preserves all of their content, TechCrunch reported.
