Wix Rolls Out First E-Commerce Update

Wix E-Commerce Update

On January 11, Flash-based website builder Wix (affiliate link) announced the roll-out of the first feature of what it says is its updated e-commerce roadmap.

Wix said that over the past year, it had received “a high volume of requests and questions” about its e-commerce package, which it said was reason for the company to update its roadmap.

The first e-commerce feature Wix rolled out was an “Add to cart” Button. The next feature Wix says it intends to release is Product Pages.

From the announcement:

Basically, it will allow each product in your gallery to have its own dedicated product page. Once a product is clicked on, a popup-like product page will be launched, masking the website behind it.

Further down the road were an improved shopping cart, coupons, shipping and tax rules, inventory control “and many more,” the company said, though no dates were announced for these features.

With more and more hosted website builders focussing on the business market, we can expect more e-commerce features to be announced by other services later this year. What do you think? Is e-commerce going to be one of the hot new features for hosted website builders in 2011? Let us know in the comments below.
