Most website builders have so far focussed on core functionality like editing pages, adding images, creating image galleries, and the like, while only a few have introduced more advanced business features.
One such features is email marketing, which many website builders continue to offer via third-party services like Mailchimp or ConstantContact.
There is nothing wrong this per se, though it can significantly increase the costs of running a business website.
On April 12, iContact, which provides email marketing services for small and medium sized businesses, announced a free version of its email and social marketing tool.
The new free package is similar to the paid iContact package, though it is limited to 500 subscribers and up to 2000 emails sent per month, has fewer templates to chose from, and does not offer phone support or priority sending. By comparison, MailChimp’s free package offers a limit of 2000 subscribers and up to 12000 emails per month.
Email marketing is a fiercely competitive market and seeing a service like iContact announce a more accessible package, is a valuable add-on for small businesses who rely on hosted website builders for their online presence.
At least while we wait for website builders to start including more advanced business features in their packages.
