Vistaprint Buys Webs.com

Webs Acquisition

Do-it-yourself website builder Webs.com announced today that it was acquired by The Netherlands-based digital printing and marketing company Vistaprint.

Technology blog Techcrunch reported that Vistaprint paid $117.5 million in cash and stock for Webs.com.

In 2007, Webs.com, which then was still called Freewebs, raised $12 million in funding from Novak Biddle Venture Partners and Columbia Capital.

In February 2011, Webs.com acquired Facebook Pages creator PageModo.

In its announcement, Webs.com said the acquisition would not affect existing customers. Webs.com said:

Vistaprint’s technology, marketing knowledge and assets will help Webs take its offering to the next level while also providing customers access to “offline” products and services that can help them market their business. Finally, both Webs small business and home and family customers will benefit from increased product and services with a value proposition we believe will resonate with them.
